Crathre House

Crathre House is one of Melbourne’s landmark Victorian mansions.  It was built in 1874 by Andrew Paton to a design by Reed and Barnes for Mr and Mrs Gavin Brown.  We restored the exterior to its original cement render finish, excavated a new basement story under the whole area of the home, and built on a new double garage.  A large pool was incorporated into a completely new landscape design and some alterations were done to the heritage listed exterior, including a grand bluestone stair cut from an 8ft long basalt boulder.  This new staircase allows the garden to be enjoyed from all of the public rooms of the home.

Highlights of the work included: a hand made French stove and 300 year old stone flooring that we custom imported from the UK for our client.
